Silencing voices of reason on its streets with choppers and bullets has become a quotidian reality in India. With surgical precision, the right wing is silencing their critics one by one. The cold-blooded murder of senior journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh is definitely not an isolated incident therefore. Most unfortunately, she is the latest in the long list of those who succumbed to the bullets of intolerance. In recent past, in much the same way, Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare, and M.M. Kalburgi had faced the wrath of bigots.

നിയോലിബറലിസം അഥവാ നവഉദാത്തവാദം എന്ന പ്രത്യയശാസ്ത്രത്തെയും അത് ഗർഭസ്ഥമായിരിക്കുന്ന കാലത്തിനേയും അതിലെ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളേയും മലയാളി വായനക്കാരുടെ സമക്ഷം ലളിതമായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് ഈ പരമ്പരയുടെ ലക്ഷ്യം. ഇതിലൂടെ തികച്ചും പ്രായോഗികവും ദൈനംദിന ജീവിതത്തിൽ നാം നേരിടുന്നതുമായ സാമ്പത്തിക വിഷയങ്ങളെ, അവയുടെ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളെ സൈദ്ധാന്തികവും, പ്രവർത്തനപരവുമായ രീതിയിൽ അപഗ്രഥിക്കുന്നു. “സൈദ്ധാന്തിക യുക്തിയായ്” പലപ്പോഴും മാറ്റിവക്കുന്ന വിഷയങ്ങളെ തീർത്തും ലളിതവല്കരിക്കുക എന്നതും ഈ പരമ്പര ലക്ഷ്യം വയ്ക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
ഏതാണ്ട് ഒരു വർഷം മുമ്പാണ്. സാംസ്കാരിക വകുപ്പുമായി ചേർന്ന് ഡി സി ബുക്സ് കോഴിക്കോട് വെച്ചു ഒരു ലിറ്ററേച്ചർ ഫെസ്റ്റിവൽ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അതിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നടത്തിയ “മതം, സാഹിത്യം, ആത്മീയത” എന്ന സെമിനാറിലേക്ക് മുസ്ലീങ്ങളെ മാത്രം, പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും അവർക്കിടയിൽ കേരളത്തിലെ മഹാഭൂരിഭാഗം മുസ്ലീങ്ങളുടെയും ജീവിതാനുഭവങ്ങളെ വിമർശിക്കുന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരെ മാത്രം ക്ഷണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ഉത്തർപ്രദേശ് ഇലക്ഷൻ റിസൾട്ട് വന്നപ്പോൾ മുതൽ മനസ്സിൽ അസുഖകരമായൊരു ചിന്ത. ഇനി മുതൽ ബിജെപി യുടെ ഏകാഗ്ര ശ്രദ്ധ കേരളത്തിലായിരിക്കുമെന്ന്. അത് കൊണ്ടാണ് കേരളത്തിലെ തീവ്രവലതുപക്ഷ പാർട്ടികളുടെ ഗ്രൗണ്ട് വർക്ക് എങ്ങനെയാണ് നടക്കുന്നത് എന്നന്വേഷിച്ചിറങ്ങിയത്. എത്തിപ്പെട്ടത് വയനാട്ടിലെ ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ചില സംഭവ വികാസങ്ങളിലേക്ക്.
The understanding that economic crises shall trigger social crises is correct. The inference that such social crises together with sustaining economic crises shall lead to political crises too is correct. At the outset let me express my happiness at being able to participate in such a rally, particularly a rally for communal harmony. Today, in our country, preserving communal harmony is of utmost importance. Several efforts are on across the country to create fissures in our communal harmony. What is especially striking is the fact that it is the RSS which is leading the Government of our country that is behind these efforts. The RSS has always been open about this – since its inception, the RSS has propagated discord among religions and sought to spread communal hatred.
