വടകരക്കാരനായ ശ്രീ ബാലന്‍ ഒരിക്കല്‍ പോലും ഇന്ത്യക്ക് പുറത്ത് സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. പക്ഷെ ആ മനസ്സ് വേറൊരു കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ ബെര്‍ലിനും, ജെനയും, മാന്‍ചെസറ്ററും ഒക്കെ കണ്ടിറ്റുണ്ട് . വായന മനുഷ്യമനസ്സുകള്‍ക്കു ചിറകുകള്‍ സമ്മാനിക്കും എന്നുള്ളത് സത്യം. മാര്‍ക്സിനെ കുറിച്ച് സംസാരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ആ കണ്ണുകളില്‍ ഒരു തിളക്കം, മുഖത്ത് ഒരു വെളിച്ചം. മാര്‍ക്സിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തെ കുറിച്ച് വാചാലന്‍ ആകുമ്പോളും, 'നമ്മുടെ സഖാവി'നെ (ശ്രീ ഈ.എം.എസ് നമ്പൂതിരിപ്പാട്) കുറിച്ചു പറയാന്‍ പുള്ളി മറക്കുന്നില്ല. 1957 ശ്രീ ബാലന്‍ നല്ലതു പോലെ ഓര്‍ക്കുന്നു. അന്ന് വടകരയുടെ വീഥികളില്‍ ചുവന്ന പോസ്റ്ററുകള്‍ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

ഇ. എം. എസ്. സമ്പൂര്‍ണ കൃതികളുടെ അറുപത്തഞ്ചാം സഞ്ചികയാണ് ഈ പ്രബന്ധത്തിന് ആധാരം. നാഷണല്‍ ബുക്ക് ഏജന്‍സി (കല്‍ക്കട്ട) 1967-ല്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച, "Kerala: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിന്റെ മലയാളം പരിഭാഷയാണ് അറുപത്തഞ്ചാം സഞ്ചിക. ഡോ. ഡി. ജയദേവദാസാണ് പരിഭാഷകന്‍.

Every resistance puts forward a challenge to the existing order. And arts are no exception to this challenge. I was twelve when I was flashed in public for the first time. കേരളത്തിലെ പൊതു വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ രംഗത്ത് സംഭവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഗുണപരമായ മാറ്റങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് ഒരു പ്രൈമറി സ്കൂള്‍ അധ്യാപകന്റെ നേര്‍സാക്ഷ്യമാണീ അനുഭവ കുറിപ്പ്. ചിന്താശേഷിയും വിവേകവുമുള്ള ഒരു തലമുറയെ വാര്‍ത്തെടുക്കുന്നതില്‍ പൊതു വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സമ്പ്രദായം വഹിക്കുന്ന പങ്കു വ്യക്തമായി വരച്ചിടുന്ന നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍. പൊതു വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തെയും അറിവുനിര്‍മ്മാണത്തെയും ബോധന രീതികളെയും സംബന്ധിച്ച് സുനില്‍ പെഴുങ്കാട് എഴുതുന്ന ലേഖന പരമ്പരയില്‍ ആദ്യത്തേത്.

കേരളത്തിലെ ബഹുഭൂരിഭാഗം ജനങ്ങളും ഇപ്പോഴും ഗ്രാമങ്ങളില്‍ ജീവിക്കുന്നു. അതില്‍ നല്ലൊരു വിഭാഗം പുലരുമ്പോള്‍ നഗരങ്ങളിലേക്കു ചേക്കേറുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും അവരുടെ ദൈനംദിനജീവിതം ഗ്രാമങ്ങളില്‍ തുടങ്ങുന്നു. അവര്‍ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളില്‍ അന്തിയുറങ്ങുന്നു. ആരോഗ്യസംപുഷ്ടവും സ്വസ്ഥവുമായ ഗ്രാമജീവിതത്തെ താത്കാലികമായെങ്കിലും ഈയിടെയുണ്ടായ സാംക്രമികരോഗങ്ങള്‍ അലോസരപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഈ രോഗങ്ങളില്‍ മിക്കതും കൊതുകുകള്‍ പരത്തുന്നതു കൊണ്ടു തന്നെ, വര്‍ദ്ധിച്ചു വരുന്ന കൊതുകുശല്യവും അവയുടെ പ്രഭവകേന്ദ്രമായ മാലിന്യകൂമ്പാരങ്ങളുടെ സംസ്കരണവും കുടുതല്‍ പ്രസക്തിയാര്‍ജിക്കുന്നു.

പയ്യന്നൂര്‍ കോളേജിന്റെ "എന്റെ തങ്കത്തിന്.." എന്ന 2010 കോളേജ് മാഗസിനില്‍ "നാല് പെണ്ണുങ്ങള്‍" എന്ന പംക്തിയില്‍ വന്ന ലേഖനം. തയ്യാറാക്കിയത് മൂന്നാം വര്‍ഷ ബി.എ. മലയാളം വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികളായ സി. എച്ച്. മനു, റഷീദ് കുമാര്‍, ഗംഗേഷ്.

Sreekumar-Sreevisakh theater complex in Trivandrum is arguably the nerve center of Malayalam cinema. It is less known for Yehudi Menuhin performing his violin there, than for the rising and falling fortunes in Malayalam film industry. Once upon a time a haven for English movies, the twin theatres were Mohanlal’s bastion by the time yours truly was of movie going age. Since then the theatres have chronicled the rise of stars notably Dileep, and many production houses. A Sreekumar release in the festival season is a sure indicator of entry into the elite club of Malayalam cinema.
